I was deeply saddened by the passing away of the Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera, The Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter. The Most Venerable Thera made a huge contribution towards fostering national unity, inter-religious harmony and social integrity. I had the enormous privilege of benefiting from his words of wisdom and compassion, and I am extremely grateful to the Most Venerable Thera for fearlessly supporting me during the challenges I had last year, which I sincerely appreciate. The passing away of the Most Venerable Thera is a great loss for our country and our people.

I WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES A HAPPY, PEACEFUL AND PROSPEROUS 2015 !
On the 26th of December, I remember the people who lost their lives in the tsunami of 2004, and I also remember all the relief efforts of the Sri Lankan people. As we enter the New Year 2015 with renewed hope and optimism, we look forward to being of service to all our people, because I believe that “IF WE DO SMALL THINGS WITH GREAT LOVE, THEN TOGETHER WE CAN DO SOMETHING WONDERFUL". I WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES A HAPPY, PEACEFUL AND PROSPEROUS 2015 !

Dr Chris Nonis meets His Holiness Pope Francis at St Peter’s, Rome
Dr Chris Nonis meets His Holiness Pope Francis at St Peter’s, Rome, following the Mass for Sri Lanka by His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, attended by 15,000 Sri Lankans of all ethnicities and religions, celebrated in Sinhalese, Tamil, and English. Pope Francis chose to be called after St. Francis of Assisi, who symbolizes "poverty, humility, simplicity and peace," and I find his prayer very meaningful and inspiring.

NELSON MANDELA
I was extremely sad to hear that Nelson Mandela had passed away, and our prayers go out to his family and the people of South Africa. He pursued the principles of freedom, justice, democracy, equality, and peace. He was the twentieth century’s symbol of freedom, but what I admire in him most is that he is one of the greatest examples of the power of forgiveness and reconciliation. Despite his imprisonment for many years, he didn’t pursue the path of recrimination, but instead forgave.
