Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his re-election with a landslide victory in the world's largest democratic election, in which the BJP-led alliance won 354 of the 545 seats in the Lok Sabha. A remarkable journey for a man who said "I was born in a very poor family. I used to sell tea in a railway coach as a child. My mother used to wash utensils and do lowly household work in the houses of others to earn a livelihood. I have seen poverty very closely. I have lived in poverty. As a child my entire childhood was steeped in poverty." An admirable achievement Prime Minister Modi, and a clear demonstration of the people's mandate, and we wish you well.

I was deeply saddened by the passing away of the Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera, The Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter. The Most Venerable Thera made a huge contribution towards fostering national unity, inter-religious harmony and social integrity. I had the enormous privilege of benefiting from his words of wisdom and compassion, and I am extremely grateful to the Most Venerable Thera for fearlessly supporting me during the challenges I had last year, which I sincerely appreciate. The passing away of the Most Venerable Thera is a great loss for our country and our people.
