Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his re-election with a landslide victory in the world's largest democratic election, in which the BJP-led alliance won 354 of the 545 seats in the Lok Sabha.
A remarkable journey for a man who said
"I was born in a very poor family. I used to sell tea in a railway coach as a child. My mother used to wash utensils and do lowly household work in the houses of others to earn a livelihood. I have seen poverty very closely. I have lived in poverty. As a child my entire childhood was steeped in poverty."
An admirable achievement Prime Minister Modi, and a clear demonstration of the people's mandate, and we wish you well.

I am saddened by the tragic attacks on Easter Sunday. My prayers go out to all those who lost their lives and to the families grieving for their loved ones. I also wish a rapid recovery to those who have been injured.
At this time of crisis, we pray for peace and calm in our Country, so that we as Sri Lankans can face this National tragedy with courage, united together as one Nation.

I was deeply saddened by the passing away of the Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera, The Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter. The Most Venerable Thera made a huge contribution towards fostering national unity, inter-religious harmony and social integrity. I had the enormous privilege of benefiting from his words of wisdom and compassion, and I am extremely grateful to the Most Venerable Thera for fearlessly supporting me during the challenges I had last year, which I sincerely appreciate. The passing away of the Most Venerable Thera is a great loss for our country and our people.

It is imperative to make optimum use of that diversity and build a strong and unified Sri Lanka which would then be able to resist those external forces that seek to divide rather than unify Sri Lanka......"
